Segway Encourages People to Say "No" to Gas and Seek Green Transportation Alternatives for Upcoming "Bicycle For A Day" Event

Segway sponsors green transportation event, offers free demo rides and a chance to win a Segway i2 on September 20, 2008 at the South Street Seaport in NYC

BEDFORD, N.H. – September 17, 2008 – Segway Inc. is proud to announce its participation and support for the upcoming Bicycle For A Day event in New York City. On Saturday, September 20, 2008, Bicycle For A Day founder Matthew Modine and celebrity supporters will join New Yorkers and visitors for a first-of-its-kind alternative transportation event. People are encouraged to leave their gas-powered motor vehicles at home and use alternate forms of transportation, including biking, walking, skating and electric personal transportation, to head to the South Street Seaport for an afternoon of free entertainment and live music.

Segway is proud to sponsor the New York City event at the South Street Seaport and will feature a demonstration course for visitors to experience riding a Segway Personal Transporter (PT), the zero-emissions, two-wheeled self-balancing electric transportation device, and learn how they can incorporate alternative forms of transportation into their lifestyle. Visitors to the Seaport will also have an opportunity to enter a raffle for many eco-friendly items donated by sponsors and supporters, including a Segway i2 which will be given away the day of the event.

“As a leader in green personal transportation, Segway is pleased to be a part of Bicycle For A Day and fully supports the organization’s mission to inspire and inform individuals about simple everyday actions that, done collectively, can make a real difference in the fight against global warming,” said Carol Valianti, Segway’s Vice President of Global Communications.

“Current transportation emissions have such a huge impact on our environment so we need to invent new ways of transporting ourselves that are more efficient,” commended Bicycle For A Day Founder Matthew Modine. “For me, Segway represents that new way of thinking – how to get from here to there – and is wonderfully efficient in its use of electric energy. Like bicycling, the Segway PT is one additional way to empower yourself to have a positive impact on the environment.”

Bicycle For A Day will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at South Street Seaport in New York City from 10 am until 5 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
