Segway Inc. Launches Segway Social to Foster Customer Connections
Customers Can Connect with Each Other Online, Share Photos, Tips & Tricks, and More
BEDFORD, N.H. – APRIL 15, 2008 – Segway Inc. today debuted Segway Social at http://social.segway.com, a community-based online environment specifically created for Segway customers and anyone interested in joining the worldwide Segway movement. For the first time, Segway customers can come to a central location online, set up a profile, create groups, tag glides or places, share photos, read news, or perform calculations to learn about their carbon and money savings by using a Segway PT. Non-owners can join the site for free as well. There they can learn about all the different ways people around the world use Segway PTs each day.
“After listening to customer feedback,” said Carol Valianti, vice president of global communications, “it was clear that the Segway community wanted, and needed this tool. Our goal is to foster growth and communication in an already exuberant and growing fan community. Creating a social media tool that facilitated this seemed natural. We already had a very social community – now we’re giving them a better set of tools to connect with each other, in a new Web 2.0 kind of way.”
Segway customers, who span across consumer, commercial and municipal markets, regularly report how owning a Segway PT becomes such an integral part of their lives. Segway Social helps to organize this information and present it in a way that encourages interaction. For example, Segway PT owners can create and join groups anywhere the world so that they can connect and participate in real world glides together. In addition, there are so many unique uses for the Segway PT that this will be a venue to connect people and ideas to enhance the experience of all the people who are using Segway PTs. Segway Social also keeps a running tally on average miles ridden by using a Segway PT to help consumers understand how using their Segway PT as an alternative to less efficient modes of transportation is helping the environment.
This week Eric Fleming, Segway Inc.’s marketing communications manager, will be posting a series of blog entries on everything you need to know about Segway Social; from how it was developed to where it might be heading in the future. Take a look at The Last Mile blog (http://www.segway.com/blog).
